Statement by the delegation of Ukraine at the Security Council meeting on the situation in Colombia

Mr. President, Madame Minister,
Ukraine reiterates its support of Colombia’s efforts in implementation of the Final Peace Agreement.
We commend completion of the laying down of individual arms by FARC-EP on 27 June this year and congratulate the Government of Colombia and FARC-EP with reaching this new historic milestone in the peace process.
It is also a matter of pride for us to note that the UN, through its Mission in Colombia, has contributed to the successful implementation of the cease-fire and the laying down of arms agreements. I wish we had more of such UN achievements.
That is why we believe that the UN should carefully study the lessons learned in Colombia and apply best practices in other parts of the world.
Effective reintegration is a key factor to secure a lasting peace. Through its visit to Colombia last May, the Security Council made it clear that to guarantee a stable and durable peace it is essential to ensure effective reintegration and reconciliation, with special attention to the needs of the most affected groups.
In this context we welcome the historic resolution adopted today regarding the establishment of a second UN mission in Colombia. We also express our appreciation to the British delegation for their leadership and hard work in preparing the draft and conducting negotiations that led to its successful adoption.
Finally, Mr. President,
The Security Council should continue to play a proactive role in supporting parties as they advance in implementing the provisions of the Final Agreement.
This decision will contribute to the strengthening of the UN role in peacebuilding in post-conflict situations and will provide the support required to advance peace, human rights and development for all citizens in Colombia.

Señor Presidente, Señora Ministra,
Ucrania reitera su apoyo a los esfuerzos de Colombia en la implementación del Acuerdo Final de Paz.
Nosotros felicitamos al Gobierno de Colombia y a las FARC-EP por haber logrado el día 27 de Junio un nuevo hito histórico en el proceso de paz al completar la dejación de armas individuales.
Al mismo tiempo es un asunto de orgullo para nosotros que la ONU mediante su Misión en Colombia ha contribuido a la implementación de los acuerdos sobre la dejación de armas y el cese al fuego. Quisiéramos que la ONU tuviera más tales logros.
Es por eso creemos que la ONU debe estudiar atentamente las lecciones de Colombia para aplicar sus mejores prácticas en otras partes del mundo.
La reintegración eficaz es el factor clave para la paz duradera. Durante su visita en el mayo pasado a Colombia, el Consejo de Seguridad ha mostrado claramente que para garantizar una paz estable y duradera es esencial garantizar la reintegración y la reconciliación con una atención especial a las necesidades de los grupos más afectados y vulnerables.
En este contexto felicitamos la resolución histórica aprobada hoy sobre la creación de la segunda misión de la ONU en Colombia. Al mismo tiempo queremos expresar nuestro aprecio y agradecimiento a la delegación británica por su liderazgo y el intenso trabajo que culminaron en la aprobación exitosa del documento.
El Consejo de Seguridad debe continuar desempañando un papel proactivo prestando apoyo a las partes en su camino hacia la implementación del Acuerdo de Paz.
La decisión de hoy contribuirá al fortalecimiento del papel de la ONU en la construcción de la paz en situaciones de post conflicto, así como brindará un apoyo necesario para afianzar la paz, los derechos humanos y el desarrollo en beneficio de todos los ciudadanos de Colombia.
