Ukraine supports the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the International Criminal Court
On May 13th, at the meeting of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, the Assembly adopted the annual resolution “Report on the International Criminal Court (ICC)”, co-authored by 79 countries including Ukraine.
Adopted by consensus, the resolution reaffirmed the importance of the ICC, particularly in the context of the bringing to justice those involved in the commission of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and other serious crimes.
During its speech at the session of the UN General Assembly, Ukraine confirmed its commitment to the principles of democracy, justice and the rule of law, and expressed support to the activity of the ICC in combatting impunity.
In the context of the ongoing Russian armed aggression against Ukraine, the Ukrainian delegation raised the attention of the international community to recognition by our state of jurisdiction of the ICC on war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by senior officials of the Russian Federation and leaders of terrorist organizations “DNR” and “FSC”—who have caused particularly severe consequences to and engaged in the mass murder of Ukrainian citizens—in order to ensure the imminent punishment of those responsible.
